COMMUNITY CATS

Community cats live outside in virtually every landscape on every continent where people live. Like indoor cats, the belong to the domestic car species. However, community cats, also called feral, barn or outdoor cats are generally not socialised, or friendly to people. They live full, healthy lives with their feline families called colonies, in their ooutdoor homes.

And there is a simple way you can help them; Trap, Neuter, Return (TNR)

TNR

This program ends reproduction, stabilises colony population and improves the cats’ lives. The behaviours and stresses involved with mating – pregnancy, yowling, spraying and fighting – stop. And there are no new litters of kittens. Other benefits include fewer public nuisance problems, decreased rescue and pound kills and lower animal control costs.
The TNR process is simple: feral cats are humanely trapped, brought to a local veterinary clinic to be spayed or neutered, vaccinated and ear tipped. The ear tipping process is a vital part of the process as a universal sign that a cat has been spayed or neutered through a TNR program. The cats are then returned to their outdoor homes to which they are bonded so that they can live out their lives.

TNR TEAM

We are currently looking for people to join our team. If you have your own transport and feel you would like to help with this very important area of Animal welfare, please email us info@rawr.ie, contact us via our Facebook Page or call into the shop for further information. Full training will be given.

RAWR began offering subsidized Cat Neutering Vouchers as a special event for Feral Cat Week 2011. Due to the success of the vouchers and the generosity of the public in donating funds to RAWR, an ongoing scheme has been set up. This scheme now includes neutering for pet dogs.

Our work depends completely on our valued volunteers. If you have some time to spare, please consider becoming part of our shop or TNR teams. Please click on Home page and on Volunteering the drop down menu for further information.
